How Strength Training Affects Daily Energy Levels

Cardio alone doesn't always fix energy issues. Strength training affects energy through different pathways.
Why strength training
Improved insulin sensitivity: Muscle is the body's largest glucose storage. More muscle means less blood sugar spikes from the same carb intake. This directly reduces post-meal drowsiness.
Higher basal metabolic rate: More muscle means higher energy expenditure at rest, which paradoxically creates a feeling of vitality. A metabolically active body maintains higher alertness even at rest.
Better sleep quality: Research shows strength training independently increases deep sleep (NREM 3), separate from aerobic exercise effects.
Minimum effective dose
You don't need a bodybuilder routine. 2-3 times per week, 30-45 minutes per session is enough for all the above benefits. Compound movements (squats, deadlifts, bench press, rows) give the best time-to-benefit ratio.
Consistency is what matters. Sleep quality improves around weeks 3-4, and daytime energy becomes noticeable by weeks 6-8.
